More Money from ERS Starts By Voting Wisely

It’s hard to believe, but when early voting begins in a few weeks, on February 14, we will have our first opportunity to choose the state leaders for the 88th Texas Legislative Session in 2023.

Those lawmakers will take up important issues that directly affect the Employees Retirement System (ERS) and your monthly annuity. We will need them to follow through on the 87th Legislature’s commitment to spend $1 billion in new funding each biennium to finally shore up ERS — and to consider a 13th check for ERS members, similar to those that retired teachers have gotten over the past few years.

To help you make decisions in the upcoming primaries, Texas AFSCME Retirees has endorsed candidates in key races around the state.

AFSCME leadership surveyed and screened potential candidates who we believe will back the legislation that affects you. This process allowed the candidates to hear our voices and calls for action and helped us understand their commitment to current and retired state workers.

Ultimately, we hope these candidates will put the state in a position to fund a long-overdue cost-of-living increase for retirees in future legislative sessions.
