Tell lawmakers — Texas’ pension system is at risk
Tell your Texas legislators to protect your pension!
The state’s failure to fully fund the Employees Retirement System represents a looming crisis for us as retirees, as well as for taxpayers and employees.
This issue affects all Texans. And Texas legislators need to hear from you.
Please click here to let your legislators know you want them to approve ERS’ request for $949 million. Doing so will protect your future, make the fund actuarially sound, put Texas on a path to fully funding ERS, and allow for cost-of-living adjustments for state retirees.
When the state fails to honor its commitment to us, the risk for all Texans grows larger. Taxpayers will ultimately be responsible for covering ERS shortfalls — and without legislative action, the fund will be depleted by the time state employees who are starting today reach retirement.
Legislators need to act to protect our Texas pension system.
State employee salaries are generally lower than those for private-sector employees. We all know first-hand that the promise of a meaningful pension helps the state attract and keep good people.
Legislators can ensure Texas maintains a strong workforce.
This issue is important — it must not get lost during the current Texas legislative session in Austin. Please write your legislators today and urge them to take action.
